Torch Run

"The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics®" is an actual running event in which peace officers and athletes run the "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of local Special Olympics competitions.  Every year members of the Upland Police Officers Association participate in the Torch Run.

For more nearly 20 years, members of the Upland Police Department have proudly participated in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. This annual event involves Law Enforcement agencies throughout the state carrying the torch in a run which culminates with the opening of the California Special Olympics.

The Upland Police Department picks up the torch at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Grove from deputies of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Rancho Cucamonga station. The officers run about four miles with the torch to the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Monte Vista where they hand it off to officers of the Claremont Police Department.
